Jennaya Dunlap

Immigration Detention Bond Fund Coordinator | She/her

Jennaya Dunlap is passionate about the work to abolish mass incarceration, including immigrant detention, as well as other means of dismantling white supremacy and the systems that proliferate and maintain it. She believes that abolition work must be led by the people directly impacted by these systems.

Jennaya grew up in Southern California in an abusive home, leading her to find refuge and support in the local immigrant community as a teenager. As she became aware of the systemic abuses and injustice faced by immigrants, especially in communities of color, the fight for justice and liberation became a lifelong dedication. Before joining the Freedom for Immigrants team, she spent nearly a decade volunteering with the rapid response network in the Inland Empire region of CA. In 2017, she became a staff member of the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice to build a larger network of support for local immigrant communities in the face of new threats. Her accomplishments there include recruiting and training a team of over 70 volunteers to support local residents impacted by immigration enforcement, documenting ICE and Border Patrol abuses for litigation, running a local hotline, establishing a bond fund and building programs to increase access to pro-bono release representation for immigrants detained at the Adelanto Detention Center.

She resides with her wife and children in Southern California, where she continues to nourish her love of learning and curiosity about the world around her, as well as her passion for art, writing and music.
